Reduce wellbore position uncertainty with deep azimuthal resistivity
BHGE AziTrak™ deep azimuthal resistivity measurement tool detects reservoir boundaries, offering accurate formation evaluation to reduce wellbore position uncertainty. When combined with our Reservoir Navigation Services, the AziTrak tool enables optimal wellbore placement for increased production in horizontal and multilateral wells. This approach reduces NPT by avoiding unnecessary sidetracks.
This formation evaluation tool is a fully integrated MWD/LWD suite, offering real-time deep azimuthal resistivity, directional, azimuthal gamma-ray, multiple propagation resistivity, downhole pressure, and vibration measurements in a single sub. All the sensors are as close to the bit as possible for early detection of undesirable reservoir sections.
By geosteering away from unproductive lateral sections—whether oil-water contact (OWC) or avoiding an undesired reservoir exit—you’ll ensure optimal placement and maximized reservoir performance.
Real-time distance-to-bed boundary and apparent-dip calculations with deep azimuthal resistivity data and gamma-ray images are available for informed, proactive decisions while drilling horizontal wells.

Collaboration achieves nearly 42,000 ft of reservoir section in two dual lateral wells
Working with an operator offshore Norway, one of our Reservoir Navigation Services’ teams applied the AziTrak tool to geosteer 8.2 ft [2.5 m] above the OWC required for screen completion.
The AziTrak tool reduced the uncertainty of the oil-water contact distance. We measured the OWC continuously throughout the 41,670 ft [12,700 m] horizontal section, enabling an OWC surface map.
With this information, we accurately tracked the OWC while drilling, achieving more than 90% pay zone in two dual laterals with two branches each.
