CHEK-LOSS Lost Circulation Material
Ultrafine cellulose remedies seepage and lost circulation in critical zones
CHEK-LOSS™ lost circulation material (LCM) is a water-insoluble, ultrafine, complex cellulosic material used for controlling seepage and loss of circulation while drilling through depleted under-pressure zones. The ultrafine particles are ideal for reducing seepage and losses when LCM particle size is a concern while drilling extended-reach wells.
The use of CHEK-LOSS LCM will depend on the severity of the lost circulation incident. In the case of minor seepage losses, a concentration of 2.0 to 8.0 lb/bbl (5.7 to 22.9 kg/m3) is typically effective. This concentration of material can be maintained in the active system while drilling ahead. If CHEK-LOSS is added directly to the active system, consideration should be given to shaker screen sizing. CHEK-LOSS LCM can also be used in pill form in the case of more severe downhole losses.
CHEK-LOSS LCM has been evaluated in the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s Drilling Fluids Toxicity Test resulting in minimal toxicity for 8.0 lb/bbl (22.8 kg/m3) of CHEK-LOSS in a generic #7 mud system.
Advantages of CHEK-LOSS loss circulation material include:

- Bridges micro-fractures and porous formations effectively to control seepage loss
- Maintains temperature stability in excess of 400°F (204°C)
