Gulf of Mexico operator eliminates production problems
An operator was concerned about asphaltenes during an upcoming sand control completion. The well at 11,100 ft [3,383 m] was surrounded by offsets plagued by asphaltene deposition.
We recommended the Baker Hughes AsphaltSorb™ solid inhibitor, which is placed in the formation through a fracture, frac pack, a gravel pack, or a prepacked screen system. Our engineers estimated the inhibitor—part of the StimPlus service product line—would actively treat the produced crude for at least 200 days, the operator’s goal.
After more than 200 days and 500,000 bbl of produced oil, well samples showed a measurable amount of asphaltenes, which meant the asphaltenes were kept in solution and did not deposit downhole. The Sorb inhibitor prevented a production problem or flow rate reduction.
