Customized aerodynamics ensure high efficiency for each customer’s unique specifications
BHGE’s multistage arrangement — with up to four stages on a common integral gearbox — is key to enabling high pressure ratios and flow rates. Our turboexpander-generators can handle all pure or mixed fluids including natural gas, petrochemical products, hydrogen, air, steam, etc., with liquid up to 30% of weight at discharge. They are designed for pressures up to 3,000 psia (200 BarA) and temperatures from -450ºF to 925ºF (-270ºC to 500ºC). A range of frame sizes is available, with maximum power of 45,000 kW and maximum flow of 200,000 m3/h.
Our patented multi-link Inlet Guide Vanes (IGVs) are available for applications up to 300ºC. They can be smoothly adjusted with hydraulic, pneumatic or electric actuators for precise control from 0 to 130% of design flow.
The expander wheels are mounted directly on the high-speed pinions, and the generator is coupled to the low-speed gear. A controller automatically adjusts pressure behind the expander wheel to keep the rotor centered at all times. Dynamic dry gas seals can be applied in single, double or tandem configurations to minimize buffer gas leakage. For units up to 15,000 kW, we offer direct-drive and external gearbox options that have a common oil supply system for the complete package. When feasible, the direct-drive option eliminates speed reduction, gearboxes and associated equipment.
