Running Fullstream Ahead in Aberdeen
ABERDEEN - May 20, 2018 - Thousands of runners took to the streets of Aberdeen in the annual BHGE10K. The company has been title sponsor since 1995 but this year was our first as BHGE.
The event comprises of a 10km and 2km road race, a 10km wheelchair race, a family fun run and a 2km race for school children. With prizes in a range of age categories including under-20s through to over-60s there really was something for everyone. This time the overall winner of the 10km race was Robbie Simpson with a time of 30minutes 59seconds which comes just five weeks after he won bronze in the marathon at the Commonwealth Games in Australia. Fiona Brian won the women’s race for a record-equalling fourth time. From Team BHGE, the fastest male was Matthew Douglas in a time of 38min 26sec and the fastest female was Lauren Tanner in 45min 5 sec. Congratulations to them both.
The local community event was also a platform for charities to raise thousands of pounds with many runners choosing to run in support of their chosen charitable organization. Team BHGE voted to run in support of Charlie House, a local children’s charity, and we were delighted to hand over a cheque to them on the day. Louise Goetz, Europe Oilfield Equipment Leader said "I was proud to take part in the first post-merger BHGE10K run yesterday, as you know it's a bit of a jump from my usual 5km runs. I was delighted with my time and undoubtedly what got me through the challenge was all who volunteered at the event and who encouraged and supported throughout the route. So a big thank you from me and indeed to those who also ran ensuring we raised £2,750 in support of Charlie House."
Team BHGE volunteers manned the finishing line, cheering on the runners and handing out the much deserved medals. Chris Jones, Europe Oilfield Services Leader, joined them. "I really enjoyed meeting all of the Team BHGE volunteers as we worked together at the finish line. It is fantastic to see everyone coming together from all the BHGE facilities across Aberdeen (and beyond) to participate in this long-standing community event by running, volunteering or spectating."
James Richardson, Europe Oilfield Services Sales Leader said, "Another great race organized by BHGE and Sport Aberdeen. The weather was perfect (for the runners!) and we had an excellent turn out from staff, friends and families at the BHGE tent. It’s always great to set some goals and achieve them on the day.”
